Today must be release date day. First we got word on Star Wars 3D's release, and now Sony's Screen Gems has announced Resident Evil 5's date.

The studio has confirmed that the fifth installment in the game-to-film series will hit on September 14, 2012. Milla Jovovich will once again star as Alice (or whatever the plural of Alice is). Most of the Resident Evil films have been released in September, including the most recent, this past fall's Resident Evil: Afterlife.

"Bloody-Disgusting has now learned that the fifth "Resident Evil" movie will actually be a prequel which will take the franchise back to its roots. The site also got its hands on the film's logo, which reveals that the title of the new movie is "Resident Evil: Begins." Check out the logo below.

The prequel will be set in 1998, before the events of the first film. Sienna Guillor, who has already confirmed that she's returning to play Jill Valentine, will play the main character. Alice (Milla Jovovich) will still be in the movie, but will not be the main focus.

So people are saying it's a April Fools Joke and some websites are stating it as fact. I personally hope it's real. I mean the plot makes sense. In the RE: Apocalypse they made it seem like Jill had previous experience with zombies and an outbreak so maybe this would document a mansion incident of some kind? I mean in the games there were two training facilities in the Mountians so maybe the one Alice was in in the first movie was like a third one?? I just hope it's real. I means it's April 2nd and they didn't say it was fake.

So I'll go back to my previous statement of the next movie being a prequel. Wonder who'll play Leon?

This propably won't turn out to be a hoax since at some point they said the next movie is going to be a prequel. Don't remember when or where so no quotes here, sorry.

Well, it seems they are finally aiming at ruining my favorite part of the series. The initial outbreak in the Arklay Mountains. @K-Mart: Well since the movies are nowhere near canon with Resident Evil, where or what Alice is/does is irrelevant to the games.

the story is different from the games which is cooler since umbrella always exist and much more modern in technology

Yet they still have managed to screw it up.
